FLORIAN HOELSCHER: MARCO STROPPA - MINIATURE ESTROSE

Stroppa spent thirteen years working on this one-hour cycle before publishing the composition in its first version in 1995. The world of “capricious” [estrose] concepts referred to in the title is however not a flight into unworldliness and Romanticism. One of the seven pieces is dedi-cated to Jassir Arafat and another to the demonstrator Carlo Giuliani killed by the police at the G8 summit in Genoa whose death pro-vided a significant cause for the foundation of the Occupy movement. Florian Hoelscher, the pianist who premiered the “Miniature Estrose” has proved to have been the most outstanding interpreter of these pieces.
